Container spot rates to Europe falling since early July
July 31, 2025
Drewry WCI, a weighted average of spot container freight rates on major trade routes, has fallen over in the past 4 weeks by 25% – pulled down since 12 June by an adjustment of rates in the ports of North America after the rapid growth in May because of the agreement on the ‘truce’ in the trade war between China and the United States.
Since the beginning of this month, rates on routes to Europe have also started to decline. In parallel, massive ship delays forced carriers to reduce ship calls and thus trimmed supply.
